“The cast of Sonic 2 reunited to talk about the making of the game and how it impacted their lives. We got to hear stories about how they auditioned, if they ever clashed with director Yuji Naka, and what it was like working on one of Sonic’s most iconic games.”
In 1996, Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The newly-formed cast reunited in October 2018 for a video interview discussing their experiences while making the game. James Arnold Taylor (aka Tails) said he auditioned for the role of Sonic by impersonating his idol Michael Jackson. He recalled that Naka was not impressed at first but soon warmed up to him and let him try out for other roles in the game.
Mia Rose recalled feeling pressure when she auditioned for the role of Amy Rose; she ultimately won after impressing Naka with her performance. Angelic vocalist Jenna Harnden said she sang many demo songs for producers during her audition process before landing the role of Princess Elise. She remarked that playing as Princess Elise changed her life because it introduced her to a new audience.
Chris Hatta (as Cream) revealed that he didn’t initially think he would get the part because he looked so different from the character model in promotional materials. He recalled spending long hours in make-up and wardrobe sessions before his final test recording session which eventually led to his breakthrough performance as Cream in Sonic Adventure 2.
