What is Kraft paper, you ask? How is this paper produced?
Let’s take a closer view.
How Kraft Paper is Made
Custom Kraft Paper is a very well-known and trusted part of the packaging and printing industry. Kraft paper packaging is used in many ways, including as a strong filler for packages and to elegantly wrap Custom Printed Kraft Packaging . It’s difficult to find sustainable and environmentally-friendly packaging that doesn’t make use of this durable paper.
How did it happen?
Wood pulp is converted into paper by a process called papermaking. Lignin, a type cellular structure, holds wood pulp together. Lignin is not a good material for paper because of its structure. However, cellulose is. This meant that there had to be a way for lignin to be separated from cellulose.
Mr. Dahl discovered that wood chips can be “cooked” in a chemical mixture of sodium sulfide or sodium hydroxide to break down the lignin fibers and separate from the cellulose. The remnants can then be screened through a mesh and made into paper.
Although the cooking process does separate the lignin from the cellulose, it doesn’t completely remove them. This is why Kraft paper is so strong. The paper pulp mixture still contains lignin, but there is also high levels of sulfur. These components add strength to Custom Kraft Paper.
Brown kraft paper is a natural product of wood pulp. Bleaching kraft paper would increase its cost and weaken it. It would also destroy the fibers that make it durable. However, bleached (or white) kraft papers can be stronger than regular paper. If you want to protect your product packaging from yellowing, bleached kraft paper can be used.
What are the advantages of using Custom Kraft Paper for product packaging? These are just a few of the reasons you should consider making Kraft paper your preferred packaging material.

These chemicals can also recycled, reused, and re-used without any quality loss. Tall oil and turpentine are the remaining byproducts from the Kraft process, which can used to make other items.
Kraft paper can also come in different types of wood. Traditional paper is not make from certain woods, such as pine and bamboo. Pine is too resinous, and bamboo is slow to properly processed. This makes it prohibitively expensive for most common uses. Both of these woods are excellent candidates for kraft paper.
