Have you ever gone to the supermarket to buy food for dinner after work? Did you enjoy the experience? Or was it just boring? Are you already tired, annoyed by the traffic jams, and just want to go home? In this article, I’d like to show you a simple way to spend time with your loved one and accomplish a task that is usually not very pleasant (for men) when you are alone: shopping at the local supermarket.
Shopping at the supermarket is the worst thing ever!
Shopping at the supermarket alone is usually hard because it’s usually right after work (and I do it most of the time too). I’m tired from the trip, tired from work, and want to go home and rest my feet for a few hours. No one looks forward to shopping at the supermarket. A pastor once told me that when his wife got sick, he had to do his own shopping at the supermarket. He said the only way he could do it was to go on a Saturday night when the stores were empty and he could concentrate.
Also, in situations where you walk into an unfamiliar store and don’t know what to expect, you can shoot before you even get there. I literally turn into a growling animal, stumble through lines looking for the product I want, and when I finally find the line with the product I want, I find it’s not there. It’s really frustrating.
See you at the grocery store.
Some people may see things differently. For example, a man who just watched an episode of Rachael Ray and is about to surprise his new girlfriend thinks he can make the exact same dish he saw on TV the night before. The only time I look forward to shopping at the supermarket is when my wife and I plan it as a fun date with the kids. We always find a grocery store (Wegmans) with a nice bar where we can eat hot, sit back, relax, chat and eat. I don’t want to advertise Wegmans (it’s my favorite grocery store by the way), but in some of them, there is live music! Some of them already are. So shopping becomes a real pleasure. And the prices are great too.
A positive attitude.
I’ve learned that there are many things that make shopping unpleasant, but depending on perspective and attitude, the experience can be better or worse. It can feel like a game of hide-and-seek with items, or it can be an enjoyable experience if you are shopping with someone you love. But whether you have a partner or not, please do as I did. Be grateful and try to take a positive path. Keep in mind that in this world (and maybe even in your neighborhood), you don’t always have the privilege of going where you want to go, and some people can’t even go at all. What I mean by this is that we should be grateful and have fun.
