At the official opening of the new Bob Evans Farm, we’re excited to present a very special Bob Evans Offer: the sign that previously stood in front of the Transit House at the Union Stockyards in Chicago, Illinois. For decades, the stockyards were the heart of the American livestock and meat-packing industries.
The Transit House was a hotel near the yards that was visited by business leaders. When Upton Sinclair arrived in Chicago to write his renowned novel “The Jungle,” which was based on the yards, he stayed at the Transit House.

Bob Evans bought the sign, which reads Union Stock Yard & Transit Co. and was built in cast steel in the mid-1800s, at a Chicago memorabilia auction in the 1960s. Evans, a die-hard collector, recognized the sign as a symbol of the stockyards and the meat-packing industry, which he worked in. He hired a driver to take it to Ohio, but it had to be transported at night because it was too lengthy to be driven safely on the roadway.
According to reports, the sign remained at the Farm until the 1970s, when it was featured on a Chicago talk radio show discussing missing Chicago antiques. Keyword:
Bob Evans Offer receiving irate calls after a caller indicated that the iconic Transit House sign was on a farm in southeast Ohio. To avoid offending his Illinois customers, the sign was taken down and thrown onto the side of a hill, where it sat until 2010.
Bob Evans Decided To Exhume The Sign And Restore It To Its Former Grandeur
When the renovations started, the executives at Bob Evans Offer decided to exhume the sign and restore it to its former grandeur. The sign was transferred to artist and steel fabricator Dave Snyder’s studio in Gallipolis. Where it was rebuilt over the course of many months, covered with vines, weeds, and wood scraps.
Parts of the scrollwork had corroded away, and Snyder had to entirely reconstruct them. Snyder used steel rivets to reconnect the three components of the sign. Which is how it was originally built because welding had not yet been invented in the mid-1800s.
Old Name Plate
The sign is being restored, with the old nameplate facing inwards toward the festival field and a newly erected Bob Evans Farm sign facing Route 588, with an image of Mr. Evans painted on the central medallion. The Bob Evans Offer will be flanked by benches, inviting visitors to take a break and marvel at this stunning piece of history.

The videos were rated on their originality, mashed potato zeal, and performance. Finalists were announced on December 1st, and America was given until December 31st to vote. The Grand Re-Opening Of Bob Evans In Greenville, Ohio Was A Success!
There were 100 people in line outside the restaurant by 5:52 a.m. Even though the weather was frigid, attendees felt that it was well worth the wait. Each of the 100 guests received a Bob Evans Coupon of $5,000

Bob Evans teamed up with The Light Foundation to contribute fifty cents per opening-day visitor to the organisation. For the opening, the whole staff was retrained to bring the new Bob Evans flair to Greenville. The Taste of the Farm bakery. Bob Evans Farm Festival Is In Its 40th Year.
The 40th annual Bob Evans Farm Festival was held at the Bob Evans Homestead in Rio Grande, Ohio, on October 8-10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The weekend was jam-packed with crafts, food, entertainment, and family fun for everyone. There were over 35,000 persons in attendance Bob Evans Offer .
The 40th Farm Festival was a huge success and a fitting tribute to our firm and its history.
People Benefited In Bob Festival
Guests learned how to milk a cow, shear a sheep, and get blacksmithing and soap-making lessons. Families marvelled as cloggers exhibited “Appalachian tap dancing” while lumberjacks demonstrated log rolling and sawing techniques.
Many came to relax and “set awhile” to the sounds of authentic bluegrass, gospel, and country music from the United States. Kettle corn, apple cider, maple products, jams, jellies, gourmet meal mixes, and much more were among the delectable treats offer.
